My locality in wide angle - for the group Next Shot

This set of photos I took for the wideangle theme for the Group - Next Shot. The photos I have arranged with the original first followed by cropped versions that I created from them. The idea was to make them all then decide which to post. I thought it a nice idea to post all the photos I took for the theme - might be a good thing for us all to do in the future to show our efforts and thinking we put into the theme. The last shot is just an example of a wide angle.

Picture Perfect Winter Competition #6 - Utopia

When a dream comes true!

Can you imagine the joy when your image of Utopia, your long held vision of the ideal life in your idea of a perfect place finally becomes realised. For this Chinese Student, from Shanghai, Australia was that imagined Utopia. She had yearned for and dreamed of this moment since a child. On a cold and blustery winters day, standing on Bondi Beach, she knew it was no longer a dream but real. She had arrived in Sydney about two days previous but not until this very moment did it seem to be real to her. So caught up in the emotion she leaped, shreaking into the cold salty air, taking in every last drop of the moment!!

The Galah

It is best to view this album in the slideshow mode to get its full effect!

Galahs are a pink and grey coloured cockatoo found in most areas of Australia. Galahs have the reputation of being somewhat of a pest or nuisance. But Galahs are actually a highly intelligent, social and highly adaptable animal. Galahs are one of the few animals that have benefited from the arrival of European settlers to Australia. The clearing of land and planting of cereal crops have really suited galahs. This led to the increase in galah populations, and the galahs expansion into every corner of Australia (helped also by the escape of pet galahs, especially in Tasmania).

Galahs were originally found to live only in the semi-arid areas of Australia. Originally galahs were recorded to live on the East Coast or Tasmania.

Spring Wildflowers - Bonny Hills NSW

Small Spring Wildflowers photographed on the headland of my hometown of Bonny Hills NSW.

Photo for today September 24th

The Colours of Spring

The headland at the end of our street is alive, at the moment, with native, spring wildflowers. I made it my mission, over the last week, to get out with the camera and photograph them before they all dissappeared, as they can so quickly do. You will find a link to an album to accompany this blog below - please note that I have no idea of their names but they are beautiful anyway with or without a name. I might make n effort to look them up sometime in the future.

Photo of the day August 16 2011

Artists

I was thinking today while out for a walk up home about how it does not mattter how every day we take my camera on the same walking route yet we still manage to find something new or different to photograph. Today, for me, it was a small group of Artists down on Spoonies Bay. The clouds were just magnificent  and made a perfect backdrop for the group and their easels. I did think of asking to take a whole lot of photos but felt a bit shy so only managed a few hurried shots as I passed them by.

Photo of the Day - July 18 2011

Energy

This is a photo that really appeals to me - not sure if it does for you too but I like the activity and the energy of the inividuals in this photo - each seems to have a world happening around them either solitary or together with another or others. In particular I like the boy at the end all alone looking out to sea and the girls playing on the rock next along from him. I have cropped them out again and placed it below.

To me this one looks more like a picture from a comic book

Thanks for looking.

Photo of the Day - July 13 2011

Red Sky in Morning.......

It was just magic this morning on the early morning walk. These photos just part of it. How those young surfers do it I have no idea but at 6.45 am there they were in the freezing air and water, paddling about to catch the first of the days sets! No way you would get me with one layer less of clothing let alone in a wet suit and surf!!

This was the way the day greeted us with it's crimson sunrise. Who cares about shepherds warnings when you have skies like this to enjoy!! There are a few other photos from the morning that you might enjoy to see in the attached album.
