Next Shot Week 13 - Technique Black and White or Sepia, Theme "Old"

Re-creating Landscapes - a look from the past

I do not have much spare time to make more photos for this theme so have just these two to present for the theme this week. I like paying with photos in this way - not that I ever do this sort of thing except for a theme like this. I try to make photos look authentic as if from a particular era as with th above. With this one which I took a few days back I used macromedia fireworks to create that antique look. I converted the original to Mono and then layed it over the original and brought a little of the colour through from behind. the next step was to add a wite texured border to give that worn look and finalllay  an opaque layer of sepia over that - voila!!! This I tried to make look like a photo from around the early 20th century - hope you agree!!

This one I did in the same way except without the sepia look - as if from the1950's. Again I use a little colour. I do not think I quite got it right but present it for you anyway. I know the theme is about being creative with black and white or sepia but I think this looks better with a hint of colour to give that age or era look.

  1. You did them perfectly Keith. The first one does look very old.

  2. I think that you achieved your goal well here Keith.
There are So many ways to give that old look treatment to a beautiful natural setting like your first photo.
A photo like that could have been taken at any time years back.
I like the boats in the distance on your second photo and the name and date gives the impression that this was a good example of a B&W photo from the time.

  4. The photo of the beach is beautiful and the sepia really brings out the timelessness of it.

The second one is great. I think the bluish tint is a plus.

  5. They way you did the first one works well. Giving it that faded look. I like the edge work too. The second one with the slight amount of color, Shows age to me too. Slightly fading away. Fun seeing how everyone has adjusted their photos for the theme. I think that photography can be done with so many things in mind. whether to record time, Be shifted to make it more art or cutting loose all the laws and making if fun for themes like this. Fun stuff.

  6. I imagine you sitting in front of the pc trying to create the image you have seen inside your head. you have a lot of knowledge about the process..and i think you have succeeded perfectly with the first. it's so fine! I could very well have been in a book from the last century.
the last one is also good, but the first captured my mind.
