Reflection of the day - Thursday

Being Present

'Presence'

“So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin"
Matthew 6:28

When we live in the present we tend to notice the natural world, when we live in our heads, we compare, worry, and judge.

For some reason, the mind cannot just be present to the moment, where it could find delight in the “birds in the sky” and the “lilies of the field” that Jesus has just described as the simple antidote to all of our “worrying.” He says “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will take care of itself”   (Matthew 6:34}

  6. You keep finding the most beautiful flowers...this one is simple, yet so wonderful to look at. I like it very much.

    It's not an easy thing to do, what Jesus advised us to, if we understand it word by word. We are more intelligent than flowers and animals, hence we can also predict certain problems in the future. To live in the presence and enjoy life here and now, is a good and wise thing to do though. And then we should learn to trust our own ability to solve whatever happens and ask our Lord for guidance.

  9. These and most of the Wildflowers I find around my neighbourhood are really tiny but, with my eyesight, it is not until I see the photo like this one that the beauty of it's detail is revealed to me. Most native flowers here are small. I think because of the intensity of the sun - this area anyway does not have the voluptuous blossoms of the more tropical areas to the north.

    Very wise and insightful words you add here Amalie. We sure do have to be part of the solution and not passively let tomorrow day take care of itself. We must prepare as Juliana points out above and follow the guidence Our Lord offers us in faith.

  12. Thanks Mitch. This is one I took a few months back but suited the theme of this post. I had thought to next time take 2 photos one focussed on the subject and the next on the background then merge them to see how it would look but I do like the blurred background - helps to highlight the flower I guess!

  15. Thank you sir!!!!! I am happy you found it has some meaning. To me these posts are a personal reflection on the words and teachings from my culture's spiriual foundation - The Bible. These truths I have share this week are just that - Truth, not exclusive to Christianity but universal.

  23. "When we live in the present we tend to notice the natural world, when we live in our heads, we compare, worry, and judge."

    With daily mindful practice, I live in the present moment more and more. It makes for a rich and peaceful life ... and I always stop to look at the beauty before me such as you've captured in this glorious photo.

  24. yes it is a great practice to do - good on you!! I think when we slow down and become more mindful we see more of ourselves reflected in all we see - we learn much from this commune with the beauty of nature and our lives become more as you say rich and peaceful. Thanks for your visit and comments.
